A.J. Preller’s number one goal this off season should be to sign or trade for a good starting pitcher to help lead the Padres pitching rotation. It would be very surprising to me if Preller does not pursue a starter.
The Padres ace last season was Chris Paddack, who had a very good season. In 26 starts, he was 9-7 with a 3.33 ERA. Other than him, they didn’t really have any starting pitchers step up. Paddack was the only pitcher in the rotation with a sub 4.00 ERA. For the Padres to be able to compete for a chance in the playoffs, they will need more than Paddack in their starting rotation.
Recently, it has been reported, that Padres pitchers Mackenzie Gore and Chris Paddack are “virtually untouchable” in trade talks during this off season.
Here are a few guys the Padres are considering signing or trading for:
It has been reported that there are many teams that are interested in trading for Rockies pitcher Jon Gray. The Padres were on the list of teams interested. It all depends on if the Rockies are actually willing to trade Gray and if the Padres are willing to give up the right value prospects.
Last season, Gray had an 11-8 record with a 3.84 ERA in 25 games…
