There are now 119 days remaining until Orioles Opening Day 2020.
The Orioles did not offer fans much to be thankful for during the 2019 season. Yesterday’s news that they’ve placed Jonathan Villar on waivers is an early sign that there won’t be much to be thankful for in 2020 either. Oh, and they may be working on trading Dylan Bundy, too – not that Bundy was an ace this season. Still, it is a safe guess whoever replaces him immediately will be worse.
The greatest thing to celebrate was when the season ended. That’s not to say it was totally miserable, though. A few players popped up largely unexpectedly to make their case that they could be on the next good Orioles team. O’s fans can be thankful for John Means and Anthony Santander, for the late-season Austin Hays surge, and if we’re lucky, some day we’ll be thankful for late-inning reliever Hunter Harvey.
Other players who had some good things going on this season, even if I’m doubtful they’ll be around when the O’s are good again, are Hanser Alberto and Trey Mancini. Villar was also good for the 2019 Orioles, and it’s a bummer that we already know he won’t be around for 2020 with…
