The Milwaukee Brewers have announced that they signed Ben Game to a one-year contract with a club option for 2021.
Gamel is a highly useful backup outfielder who also hits from the left side. He plays adequate or better defense at all three outfield positions, putting up +5 Defensive Runs Saved and a +3.7 UZR. In 351 plate apperances, Gamel posted an 87 wRC+. While that’s not great, it’s reasonable for a left-handed bat getting limited playing time behind a star-studded outfield.
The Brewers’ back outfielder was projected to make $1.6 million in arbitration. We don’t know the number yet, but if Arcia’s deal is any indicator, it was at a slight discount. Milwaukee already freed up $15.6 million in estimated arbitration costs with its five non-tenders and signing Arcia to a $2.2 million deal.
