The decision to non-tender Joseph was almost a certainty. The back-up catcher was expected to earn about $1.2 million going through the arbitration process. While that sum is not much, the high chance that Joseph would spend the entirety of 2020 in AAA-Reno means the team might be better off with a back-up catcher on a minor league deal.
