It was just another ordinary day in Metsland when a former-Met signed with a division rival but then EVERYTHING CHANGED.

After Tiki Barber hinted at what was to come a day earlier, it was announced that Fred and Jeff Wilpon will no longer be majority owners of the team in five years.

The sale reportedly stems from a rift between the Wilpons and the Katz family who had no interest in working with the younger Wilpon should he assume control in the future.

Billionaire Steve Cohen will be the new majority owner and could be the type of owner befitting a New York team.

Even though the Wilpons will officially be owners for the next five years, Cohen could start exerting his influence a lot sooner than that.

The new owner already has close ties to people in the organization which could be a reason why the Wilpons are comfortable selling to him.

While everything is pointing in the right direction, it remains to be seen if the current owners will go quietly into the good night who are still maintaining control of SNY.
