Padres News: Friars committed to supporting staff, MiLB players for foreseeable future (Gaslamp Ball)


Among all the chaos and murkiness surrounding the MLB and their attempts at striking a new financial agreement with the Players Union, the Padres are forging their own path. Right now, they are currently the only team in the MLB that is committed to playing their minor league players through August while also promising no furloughs or layoffs from now through the end of October for their baseball staff, per Kyle Glaser of Baseball America.

For the sake of those struggling the most due to the coronavirus pandemic, I truly hope they are not the only team to do this for much longer. Kudos to general manager A.J. Preller and his staff for being able to get this done.

As things stand, there hasn’t been any more information regarding the latest proposal sent by the MLB to the union that proposed salary cuts for the highest-paid players in the MLB while the lowest-paid players receiver lesser cuts. Unsurprisingly, the players have yet…
